Degloving - Traumatic injury in which a significant amount of skin and/or flesh is ripped off your cat's tail, exposing muscle or bone. Requires immediate emergency vet treatment and probably amputation.

How do you treat a degloved cat tail?

These wounds are painful and at risk for infection as the underlying tendons, muscles and bone is exposed. Careful and urgent assessment by a veterinarian is required. Unfortunately these cases require surgical repair with amputation or removal of the exposed tissues.

Will a degloved tail heal on its own?

Degloving is also referred to as a shed tail, and degu tails do not grow back once degloved. Broken tails: Degu tails can also have broken bones, even when the tail does not become degloved. Sometimes the break can heal on its own, but in other cases, the injury requires the tail to be amputated above the break.
